About CHAFA
Vision
We are dedicated people associated with Clay High School, reflecting on the
past, experiencing the present and creating the
future while having fun and
contributing to the academic and personal goals of Clay High students. We
provide the vehicle for
carrying on the legacy of Clay High School.
Mission
Clay High
Alumni & Friends Association is committed to providing a forum for
people who are alumni and friends of Clay High School. By gathering
to have fun through fellowship, this association will promote
opportunities for Clay High School students to realize their
academic and personal goals.
Our theme
"fun raising" will contribute to fundraising and will help Clay High
School sustain its legacy of excellence in educating students and
prepping them for life. We will also help students advance
academically and personally in the community through scholarship and
personal involvement.
What Does CHAFA Do?
The Clay
High Alumni & Friends Association sponsors two events each year. The
Chopper Dropper is held at CHS Federici Stadium. This event entails
the purchase of numbered golf balls which are taken up in a
helicopter and dropped over the football field. The winning ball,
closest to the center flag wins $1000! This event is held on
Homecoming and has continued to help provide $1000 scholarships to
twenty-nine graduates since 1998. This event also helps to maintain
any additional costs involved with the publishing of the
twice-yearly newsletter.
Our
second event is a combination of two great times in one! Groove in the Grove and
Alumni Hall of Fame Recognition Dinner. The combination of these two events lets
alumni and friends enjoy a great time dancing and reminiscing as well as
honoring those alumni or friends who have been chosen by CHAFA members to be
inducted into the CHAFA Hall of Fame. Not only does this function provide a
place to meet old friends and make new ones, it is also a great place to hold
YOUR class reunion. CHAFA takes care of the place, the food, the drinks and the
music. All you need to do is invite your former classmates!
Although the Groove is not a money making event, any additional profit is put
back into the CHAFA to use towards assisting individual organizations at Clay
High School. So far we have purchased two display cases for trophies and awards
at the high school. Additional donations have been given to the Crystal, Eagle,
Operation Graduation, Limelighters, Vietnam Memorial, Cheerleaders, Athletic
Boosters, Jazz Band, Academic Boosters as well as the care and keeping of the
CHS mascots. Donations have also been contributed to the Harold Potter Field
House and the Hank Spring Memorial Gymnasium. An Oregon Spring Festival parade
entry is made with CHS Eddy & Edna Eagle riding proudly on top of a Corvette.
CHAFA
holds bi-monthly meetings at Clay. All are invited to join the committee and new
ideas are always welcome. Become involved a lot or a little. You may contact
Tammy Hughes Swartz, CHAFA President, at 419-693-0665. ext 2044 with any
questions, concerns, and meeting dates.
